...could this be why it now doesn't turn on? The green light appears to show it's charging, but it will not switch on. Is this a likely reason why it won't start? How can I get it fixed? I've heard only a specialist should look at it...

Have you tried doing a reset and then try to switch it on again.

It's highly unlikely that having it plugged in whilst you start the engine has caused a problem.

As has been suggested, try a reset, if it has a memory card, remove it and reset as well ands then report back here.

Does it smell like a burnt plastic sort of smell if you hold it to your nose? If you have let the blue smoke out it stops working.
