PocketGPSW cameras. Is de-duplication needed instantly

Sorry for starting a new thread on an old topic, but most of the GPSW camera threads are horrendously long and hard to use for one simple query.

I have downloaded the latest camera data from TT for my 910.

I am persuaded by those around here that the GPSW data is more complete and I'm happy to pay for it.

But, assuming that all the TT supplied cameras are bound to be on the GPSW database, am I instantly faced with the task of de-duplicating my POI's ?

I'm happy to buy one of the two recommended edit programs if that is needed. But want to know what the task is before I take the plunge of loading all this new info on to my 910.

I am sure the answer is on this forum a dozen times elsewhere. Maybe a URL is all that I need.

I've turned off the Tomtom supplied speedcam info and just rely on the PGPSW supplied data set on my 910.

You can either just turn off (disable) the TT one on the Go, or once you are happy with the PGPSW ones you can delete the TT ov2 files off the hard drive in one go.
You can even run them together for a while (with a different alert noise) to see for yourself how good or bad the TT one is.
You certainly won't need to delete each camera position individually.

Easier than I thought.

Can't look at my 910 at the mo as it is in the car, but I'm assuming that turning off POI's (or a selection of them) is an easy menu command.

Whilst I have your ears.....can I assume that the PGPSW ones come with some pre-set warning distance. I have read how one sets one's own preferences but cannot imagine that the don't come with something already selected.

To turn the TT Speed camera warnings off you need to go into the Tomtom plus services menu and under the speed cameras select disable warnings...

I'll get the full menus when I drag my 910 in from the car....

But the PGPSW ones can have any any warning distance you like (different for each speed) and any in-built sound or any added sound or even voice warning you like (so it says "Warning... Gatso... 30 MPH" or whatever).
Those are set up in "Manage POI". (Details for adding the voice files are in this forum).

The warning distances are a function of the TomTom, they cannot be "pre-set" by the POI makers.
If you use the full 24 file "speed-zoned" set you DO have to set up the warning distances for each type and speed, which does take a few minutes, and gets a bit boring, but you only have to do it once, when you update the files (new ones produced every fortnight or so) you just overwrite the old files with the new ones with the same name.

Is the TT pre-set that varied or do they get away with one distance and one warning sound?

Not exactly a friendly flexible solution - I've also found using the pgpsw speed zoned files the text-to-speech conversion works nicely so you get the speed camera type read out on a 910 - handy as the number is the limit ;)

The easy way to stop the TomTom warnings is to delete the files from the device, look at #13 on the FAQ sticky (IIRC).

To set-up the 910 read the 910 specific camera installation guide, this details using the on board Text To Speech computer voice.
Having tried both offerings of camera database I soon decided on which one I trust!

Also in the 910 guide is a look up table to set the warning distance, the default value on the device is 300 yards, but it is easy to change, 20mph = 200 yards, 30mph = 300 yards ....... 70mph = 700 yards - easy to remember, and if you are at the speed limit the distance equates to a 25 second prior warning.

With the 910 you can use TTS warnings, ogg warnings or beeps and bells (or any combination of the above), the choice is yours - preset warning sounds/ distances are never going to work as the individual wants are different to everyone else - Mike

I'm one of those people who prefers no speech. I turned it off when I had a Garmin 2610 and I've already downloaded, but not yet installed, that silent speech add-on that someone has made so I can hear the bells for speed cameras and not be told verbally what to do at each junction.

A bell to say I am coming up to a camera is all I'll want.

But I don't use the suction mount. I have removed it from my car docking unit so, when I lock the device in the boot, there is no evidence that I have a GPS.

Gosh, nearly a year since the last post!

I use the PocketGPSWorld speed cameras and they have a nice gentle bong.

In January last year I must have found the way to turn off the TT camera sound.

Last week I put the new maps on my 910 - and I think some new operating software.

Now I have a huge gong as I come up to a camera. I thing it must be a TT camera as I am also, at odd times, getting my nice soft bong from what I assume are the PGPSW ones.

Can someone help me to turn off the TT cameras - or at least change my gong to a bong.

Choose "TomTom Safety Cameras", then either "disable Alerts" completely(bottom left),

or "Change Warning Preferences" (top right)- select "all" cameras and go through a similar set-up to the normal POI alerts where you select a warning distance (actually TIME here!) and a sound effect etc.
