Maps suddenly vanished!

Hi - I hope you guys can help me out!

I've got a Nuvi 310, and all had been working fine on it without any problems. Yesterday I had a look on the Garmin website, and saw that an update was available for it, I downloaded and installed the update, according to the instructions on the PC.

All was going fine last night on my drive home, and the unit worked as per normal, but suddenly the maps vanished from screen, with a message along the lines of 'No roads to destination' flashing up. I switched the unit off, gave it a moment or two and switched it back on, and all appeared fine.

I've used the same route loads of times, and had no issue before now. Any idea what could have caused this? Is there a way I can get the maps from Garmin to re-install if need be? I looked at the map info on the unit, and it listed the maps fine, so I'm not sure why it couldn't show it. It still had speed camera alerts pop up, along with town names, just no actual roads were visible - very odd!

You could try hitting the RESET button - if the update was for the Sirf receiver, maybe it's confused and is spitting out duff data? (Bit of a long shot, admittedly).

When you say it "listed the maps" - is City Navigator actually selected? - i.e. with a tick next to it?

Also, the latest firmware (V4.40) seems to have altered the Zoom levels. I used to set Map Detail to "Normal", but have changed it "More" since I found myself driving on 'non-existent' roads. (I've not had any error messages though)

turns out I'm a muppet - and had unticked the city navigator maps - nice work eh? Reticked, and it's all working fine now! Just as well, I'm driving to Essex from Edinburgh next week!
