Ohh! That's exciting. I found a $100 rebate for TomToms and I've been thinking about getting a new one. I'm currently using a 910, but I've heard great things about the GO720. The NY Times even did a write up about it. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Holiday-Tech-Gifts-GPS.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

The only "bonus" with the 720 over the 910 mentioned in that review is MapShare.

MapShare is not all TomTom and the hipe make it out to be.

Please check MapShare out carefully. Even most of the corrections you make yourself DO NOT appear on your device e.g. Rotary's and no Left or Right turns.

I would save your money till the next generation of TT GPS devices appears or your 910 kicks the bucket.

Also the 910 with some newer maps supports the MapShare feature so new maps on your 910 may be a better, cheaper option.

I am not sure which release of USA maps is required for the feature but it "works" with my 910 (with my UK maps) to the same limitations as with my new 520 which awaits repair as the bluetooth is defective.

Good words of advice HummerUK. I am still debating on what to replace my TTG 500 with, The usual problem is with the hands free being poor. I use mine alot and so need a good clear reception for me and the person at the other end. The prices are dropping over hear so next year should be even better. I will sit back and wait.(And add more features to my very usable 500)

TomTom have moved away from decent loudspeakers in the x10 and x20 series, I'm afraid. If you don't care about Mapshare and you DO care about hands free, I'd recommend you stick with the trusty 500 until such time as TT come out with a decent speaker (unlikely IMHO) or a unit with the facility to channel hands free phone calls via FM or Bluetooth to your vehicle loudspeakers.

During the course of a call, use the volume control at the bottom of the navigation screen to adjust call volume.

Dennis will tell me if I'm wrong. Wink

That's for the x10 series. Strangely, it seems to be unnecessary on the 720 for me - that may be because I have the 720 set at maximum volume anyway, but I'd guess if you do adjust the volume in the manner suggested above (which DOES work if you're not already on 100%), you'll find you're at that volume for navigation instructions etc after the call is finished.

thanks for all the input, as you suggested Dennis i have been driving with the volume at 100% and using the radio control for the volume and hence the handsfree has been fine Laughing

Gmonkey-

If you're still interested in the 720 after all considerations (I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything...Ok, I'd trade it for a 920), Newegg.com dropped their regular price to $400, and you can stack the TomTom MIR on top of it so it only costs $300.

http://dealnews.com/Tom-Tom-GO-720-In-Car-4-3-GPS-System-for-300-shipped-after-rebate/202245.html

Note: You must subscribe to Newegg's newsletter to use the code.

Also, since TomTom screwed us by pulling the voice recognition on the 720 in the US, you might consider the 920 for $400 at Costco.com. Even if you don't have a membership you might be able to order it and pay a 5% penalty, which is still about $80 less than I've seen it anywhere else.

I just looked in the ASR folder; no such file. I tried creating one using UltraEdit, but no luck (didn't really think it would work, but figured it was worth a try).

Any way you can post/email that file?

Did you purchase yours in Canada? I had assumed it would be the same for all of North America, but maybe those of you north of the border lucked out.
