Thought I'd start a dedicated thread on this as I noticed mention of it by others and have had the same myself.

I've just been testing an X980T with V7 software and found that I get the 'Phone not supported' message when trying to copy contacts into my X980T.

The phone is a Nokia 6230i and so I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't supported - it's pretty much a 'standard' phone.

Has anyone had success in copying contacts?

Hi

Stu from Viamichelin here - Your phone is compatable but it only copies over the first 100 items from your sim. Do you have more than 100 names in there? I really am not sure why this hasn't worked but am investigating it.

Can you tell me if other functions - Bluetooth/GPRS are working Ok and what network you are on?

Cheers

Stu

Hi Stu -

I do have over 100 names in my address book, though not in my Sim.
Is it the Sim or the (phone's internal) address book which gets copied?

I don't use GPRS, but the X980T seems to be working for dialling out and receiving calls. (Does the X980T have a microphone for making calls or are you relying on the phone?).

My network is O2.

Can you try setting up the GPRS and tell me if that works OK? The phone copies the sim but I am having the function checked with your phone as we speak.

The X-980T has its own microphone which it uses and you can attach an extension mike to the cradle as well to improve the sound

Cheers

Stu

Stu - I can't really trial the GPRS as I don't have a GPRS option on my account..

I've still had no success with copying the contacts.

Is there anyone out there who has managed to copy contacts OK?

If so can you let us know some details eg. typoe of phone, number of contacts, any particular settings on the phone etc?

I have copied contacts (less than 100) from my Samsung SGH-D900i, but part of the name is gibberish, but when I try to modify the entry, it lets me modify the name but locks up totally on the number. I then have to turn off, remove SD card and turn back on and re-enter SD card. So I then had to delete all entries and enter them all manually which is a right pain especially when the is an option to do it but fails.

100 contacts is not very much, especially when business contacts are loaded on the phone. What do you do if you have more than 100?

Stu you didn't answer this question. It must be from the phone address book - since only it contains the addresses? Can you navigate to addresses in your contact list?

Well

I've tried three different phones now:
Nokia 6230i
Sony Ericsson Z610
Siemens S55

All seem fine for hands free calls.
BUT
None of them will copy contacts.

Stu - any progress on the apparent problems with this feature?

Anyone else got other experience?

Hi Datajoker,
Can I confirm that you are able to RECEIVE calls through the Nokia 6230i?

The reason I ask is because I have been unsuccessful at receiving calls using both a Nokia 6230i and a Sony Ericsson "T"610.
I have successfully paired both phones and also successfully connected both phones and outgoing calls are generally OK.
However the Nokia (50% of the attempts) and the Sony Ericsson (100% of attempts) cause my new 970T v7 to malfunction when accepting incoming calls.
The symptoms are that only a faint hiss is heard after accepting the call and the VM changes to the main menu page.
The VM is then completely mute until a hard reset.

Testing the volume also only results in a faint hiss for several seconds.

I have also failed to copy the first 100 contacts from my T610.
I get "copy failed, check that your phone is compatible on our web site"
It IS compatible according to the website.

I contacted VM in France (via phone) over a week ago and was promised a reply by e-mail - nothing received so far.
Another call on Friday was also unsuccessful at sorting the problem.
Their advice to reinstall the PDA using contact manager raised a further issue - my XP update 2 PC refused to do this.

Bottom line is that if I can't make progress with the Bluetooth issue I am regrettably going to return it to GHSTech for a refund.

Hi Clive

Yep - I've been able to receive calls on my 6230i - sound & mic on VM working fine.

All seems fine for me except for the contacts handling which seems to fail at every attempt with any phone I've tried.

Stu - is there any comment from ViaMichelin on this behaviour?

Thanks datajoka - I'm talking to GHS who in turn are talking to VM.
There is a suggestion that a patch might be available for this.
However, it seems possible to me, that my 970 v7 may have a fault in the light of your success in receiving calls.
I'm hoping for some way to move forward soon with the Bluetooth issue

Have managed to have a very quick play with the work's Nokia N95 and I'm impressed with the GPRS functions. Although I did try the copy function and also got the message phone not supported.
As it was the work phone I wasn't able to investigate much further. I believe my SE w910i has arrived, just depends on if the other half lets me have a play before it goes away for christmas. Sad Laughing Out Loud. Laughing

I just installed the V7 software and failed to copy my contacts from my Nokia 6233. Phone is listed as unsupported on ViaMichelin website but some of these features must be common across all models of the same phone!
