safety cameras in France

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I've just bought a tomtom1 (Europe) and had safety cameras downloaded, as I'm going to France shortly by car. Someone has told me that it's illegal to use safety cameras in France - and I wonder if anyone can tell me if this is a fact please? Question

As far as I know, France is still legal.

However, it may be worth expanding this to say that GPS location of speed cameras in France is legal, whereas radar speed camera detectors are illegal.

Since your TomTom will use GPS, it should therefore be legal

...but in Germany, Austria and Switzerland any kind of device showing or detecting speed cameras are illegal
