hi can anybody tell me if i can put satnav onto a hp jornada540 if so what type of gps module/ recever would i need also the gps i want is for the likes of hiking and sailing not realy for the use on roads

You will need a cabled GPS unit as it doesn't have bluetooth connectivity. THere are many such devices to be had - have a look through the products supplied by tthe advertisers on this site. However as the unit is 'getting on' in terms of technology - you may find it difficult to get mapping applications (Anquet / Memory Map) to run on it.

Unless you have a strong desire for electronic maps then I would suggest a stand alone unit, like a GARMIN GPS60, used in conjunction with maps/charts. This unit will also connect, via a serial port, to your PDA when you want to try this.

In general I find that using a PDA as a GPS substitute is not worth the aggro. You have to provide protection for the PDA and also some means of extending the battery life. AA unit like the GPS60 will give you a full days use on 2*AA batteries.
