Currently using a Nuvi 310 and have the detail level set to most. Whilst driving in ready to navigate mode, usually there are, 3 or 4 at most, roads named.
Do different machines display more information at one time?
One would presume the bigger the screen the more info?
Reason for asking is that when working locally, I roughly know where the road I'm looking for is but is nice to see it displayed on the unfolding map so i know "It's the third on the left" and not bumble along knowing "It's on the left along here somewhere"!

Err..

Isn't the point of owning such a device that you would program locations you are trying to find - so at least it would be highlit (?highlighted) on the device? Confused

I have the 660 and set to 'most' - but it still doesn't name every road on the map.

For short trips around my locality it would take me longer programming in the addresses than actual driving time. If I know my first call is Leander Drive, I know it's a turning off Thong lane, but when driving along with the flow of traffic is it the second or third on the right? A quick glance at the sat nav gives you the information, if it's displayed that is!

Just checked on the Garmin 60csx.[small screen]

It depends on the mapping software-Basemap/Metroguide/CityNavigator
It depends on the Zoom level.[all are listed at 200 feet and below]
It depends on the size of the font for the street name.
The most helpful for your problem is the top of the screen shows the street name ahead [*****AHEAD]. If you are routing then the screen would show the routing instructions instead!

So in rural Wales I have the facility you are looking for, but your SETUP must be modified or your particulat model does not have the facility to use the CityNavigator detail to the FULL.

Just tried the Garmin iQue 3600 to refresh my memory, as after five years of use you take things for granted!

It lists all the street names on the map screen [depending on the SETUP/Option]

It shows in the Navigation Screen [top 25% of map screen] the street name [****** AHEAD] and the House number and street you are driving on!!

Driving South and West it shows odd numbers and even numbers driving North and East.

High Street AHEAD
22 Lower Moor Street

I think that would fullfil your GPS needs? Razz

Thanks for that, confirms what I thought that the Nuvi is not a delux model Laughing
When it comes to time to change I shall have to inspect the units closely before purchasing!

Thats true, according to GARMIN the nuvi is very much towards the lower end of the scale.
