Hi,

I've been considering buying a first satnav for some time now. The specs for the TomTom 520 looked great before it's release especially as it's meant to be compatible with my mobile phone (a simple Nokia 6230i) but I'm now a bit daunted by the tread Known 520/720 Faults.

Does anyone have any idea how common the problems are? Have you found that retailers are happy to exchange faulty units or is a hassle / long wait for a replacement involved? Any good / bad experiences with particular retailers would be helpful in picking the right place to buy one, e.g.I don't want to save a few £££s but can't get a faulty unit replaced if it buzzes...

Overall, would experienced satnav owners still recommend buying a tomtom 520 despite these problems?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes, its still a good device. You'll enjoy it.
The software DOES have teething troubles, but nothing disastrous. The only major issue seems to be this hands-free buzzing and as far as I can see, it might be limited to an early batch that all the people who come here a lot dashed out to buy as soon as possible!
Don't forget that all future software updates are free, so I'd expect an update quite soon, now a lot of the little bugs have been flushed out.

Why not say to the shop in a loud voice when you buy it: "I have heard there were a few of these that had a problem with the hands-free. If I find there is a problem on this one, will you replace it without a fuss?"
