Further to my post below I have spent most of today on the net (divirce now impending) looking for the best Vav system for my Toshiba E330. I have narrowed it down to the Destinator 3 or TomTom2.

Looking on the recommended sites here 1 thing confuses me.

The TomTom dual system uses a CF card when out and about, when attempting to buy I can choose the E330 option yet this PDA doesn't have a CF slot. Am I missing something here ?

I like the idea if you get stuck in a jam and come off route the TomTom will re-calculate your route. Am I right in thinking this isn't a feature with destinator ?

What are your preferences ?

TIA

TomTom doesn't sell a package with CF card, some retailers may be bundling one with TomTom Navigator and charging a little extra though. TomTom comes in two configs, either a cabled GPS mouse requiring an accessory socket in-car for power, or a Bluetooth GPS. Destinator comes with a cabled GPS solution.

Both TomTom and Destinator gives you route re-calculation and road avoidance.

Both TomTom and Destinator can calculate detours.

Both programs are agnostic to the kind of GPS receiver - they work well with CompactFlash, BlueTooth, serial or jacket receivers.

So it is more a question of the connectivity of your Toshiba E330. This is your problem - the E330 doesn't have any. No serial, no CF, no BlueTooth. It does have an SD slot but that's needed for the data storage... It's simply not a good machine for GPS navigation.

Thanks for your help so far.

I've since found out I can get the NAVMAN software/hardware through work.

Looks like I'll have to buy a new PDA. What do you recommend for compatibility with Navman.

If you are looking at the Navman sleeve, then you'll need an iPAQ either a 3800/3900/5400/5500. If you're looking at the Navman 4400/4410 then any Pocket PC capable of Bluetooth should suffice.
