SD Cards

I have bought a 2GB SD card for my Garmin nuvi 250 Europe, but the installation guide with the card tells me I should format the card in the device but I cannot see how to do this.
I put the card in and Windows XP via the usb cable and it recognizes the nuvi as a mass storage device and it also recognizes the SD card, I am planning to load some POI's on to my SD card.
Can anyone help please, this is my first GPS device.

If it recognises the card I would ignore the need to format it.

Thanks Darren I have now loaded POI's on to the SD card and it works fine.
