Tomtom one v2 Europe internal memory

I have a TomTom One v2 , it has an internal memory of 958 MB which is nearly full. I’m thinking of buying a 2gig sd card for the unit. Is there any loss of speed by using a memory card? Also would there be any benefit to deleting the information on the internal memory (speed), once the memory card has been upgraded and placed onboard. As far as I know the unit will use one or the other which is pity as it would be a far better system if you could place the card in to expand the internal memory or put in more memory for Europe map units.
I have deleted all the foreign voices etc. that I don’t need.
