Recently bought a new phone, Sony Ericsson K810i. My Tomtom 700 doesn't recognise the phone, presumably since it is a relatively new model.

Anybody know how I can update the software on my tomtom such that it recognises newer devices?

Thanks.

If you're talking about bluetooth, it shouldn't matter how new the device is - bluetooth is a standard wireless connection method that all devices on which it is installed should understand.

When you switch both devices on, make sure bluetooth is enabled and the devices are 'visible to all' (as opposed to 'hidden'). One device should then be able to 'discover' the other when you tell it to search for devices.

I don't know the details of how to do this on your devices, but no doubt you do...

Yes and no. I would certainly expect the TT unit to spot the 'phone over the BT connection - but it depends on what services the phone uses as to what it can do with the TT unit. I would expect basic dialling and calling to work as this is 'standard' hands free functionality. If this isn't the case then I would look at starting from scratch and re-paring the phone with the TT unit. If you are saying that it won't get this far, then a word with TomTom support is called for.

Moving phone contacts etc can be problematic on some phones if they implement the OBEX protocol - as does my Nokia N72. I had to get an app to run on it to allow it to send contacts to my nuvi 660, where as my Nokia 6680 - with virtually the same O/S (Symbian) on it, works out of the box - there is a single point release difference between the two phones as far as O/S is concerned.
