PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2007 9:18 pm    Post subject: XDA Exec and TT6 not seeing GPS Reply with quote

I have just bought a new XDA Exec and TT6. I already had a Leadtek Bluetooth GPS which I used to use with my old 2210 and TT3. I have installed TT6 but when I start it it just says "No GPS Device" at the bottom left of the screen.

I have created a partnership but I'm not sure whether I need to do something with the outgoing and incoming ports.

Can anyone help please?

go in to the bluetooth manager oof the exec and slect com ports now select new outgoing com port and follow the on sreen instructions. when you come to select a com port select com 8 then uncheck secure connection, once finished go to tomtom and set other bt gps and slect com 8 as the com port after a couple of second the little disc in the top corner should start to spin

Tried your suggestion but TT still says "No GPS Device". The XDA can see the receiver it's just TT that can't.

Thanks very much Alix776. I have just followed the instructions and it is working now. It was the Serial Port which was unchecked on my setup.

Just got to get used to the new version now. :D

Thanks again.

Well this has been working fine but not today. Crying or Very sad

I don't have to use it all the time and the last time I used it was a few weeks ago. We have a long trip planned so I got the Leadtek bluetooth GPS out and powered it on. The blue light is flashing and the green is as well so nothing wrong there.

I launch TT but it doesn't see the device so I go through the setup again. The GPS is discovered but when I reach the end of the setup still nothing. I have been following the instructions in this post http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=50105&highlight=xda+exec+gps as I did originally so I'm really confused.

Any ideas please?

Go to Bluetooth Settings/ Devices Tab and where your GPS unit is listed tap and hold, from the pop-up menu select "Delete" then start the guide you linked to from the top. The device sounds like it has lost some settings so a delete and re-pair is a good starter for ten - Mike

Have you been using any other GPS related software on the Exec? if so can you let us know what it was/ is.
Also go to Settings_ system tab Memory and select running programs now tap "Stop All" just in case you have something loaded that is tying up the GPS port - Mike

No other GPS software at all. I have done a couple of soft resets in case that was the problem. I have just checked and the only thing running is the comms manager.

The only other bluetooth device I have is a handsfree headset and that is working fine. I'm really stumped with this.

In the TomTom application tap the GPS staus bars (lower right corner) then tap the GPS Status bars again on the screen that is presented, the screen you are looking for is:

1/ does the yellow / blue disk top right spin?
(It is just below the 9 of the time display - 12:39)
2/ do you get any grey bars indicating a signal at the bottom of the screen?
(In the above screen shot these are washed out but should appear where the blue numbers are displayed in vertical columns).

You might want to take the unit outside to check this and wait for a few mins - Mike

Hi Mike

Been trying several different things.

I don't get the yellow/blue disk spinning or any grey bars. I went outside and removed the GPS from the bluetooth manager and then tried to add it again. It took a couple of attempts even though the GPS was only inches away, then it discovered the device but instead of coming up with Leadtek it was something like 0006dt456 which I couldn't configure.

I came back inside and it did then discover it as Leadtek but still nothing on the status. It looks like the Leadtek bluetooth GPS receiver is broken doesn't it? Are they susceptible to this kind of fault?

It still has the lights flashing as it should but there is something amiss. I will try to see if a work colleague has one I can try. I doubt I can get a replacement in a couple of days. Arrrggghhhh!

Well I took my GPS receiver in and it works with a set up a colleague has so I'm thinking that maybe TT needs to be reinstalled.

I will have to look at that when I get home tonight.

This is starting to look like a major problem. I tried with another GPS but it's just the same which would imply that it's likely to be a software issue, but I noticed occasionally that the bluetooth light on the GPS stays on rather than flashing. If I try to discover it at this time it either can't see any devices or it sees it as 000a3a64c324.

This makes it look like a hardware problem. Of course it could be that there is a problem with both. Sad

Oh well, looks like I will be printing out some Google maps for the journey.

Have you tried a hard reset of your PDA?

Maybe it's worth a try as everything else hasn't done the trick. Backup all important data first and you will need to re-install your apps - but it may be worth it if it gets you going.

Sounds like a BT problem on the PDA for some reason.

Is there a firmware upgrade for your PDA? Or did you install one prior to TT stopping? Just because your BT headset is working OK doesn't mean the Serial Port Protocol is.
