First off let me state that I am a big fan of TomTom having it first on an ipac pda and thought that this is just the best way of doing navigation there is, defending against my friends with there Meridian and Garmin sets.
I then heard about the TomTom Go sets that were out and thought that I cannot justify changing to one of them just for the sake of it. Then out came the new Go 10 sets and of I went to get my Go910.
Now there was one fundamental fault with this and that’s the Mount with the unit switching off and re booting over almost every bump, TomTom finally got this sorted with various software updates and I was happy.
I then went out a got myself a TMC receiver on the day of release and we all know how that went don’t we “still not working”.
Then I heard about the FM Mount and thought what a fantastic idea so I ordered one from Amazon and waited for it to arrive. And it did and all I can say is TomTom you have got to sort out the mount as this FM mount drops out over every bump and is almost unusable so I am returning it to Amazon.
How can TomTom get it so wrong so often although that statement is a little unfair as the mount is and always will be the Achilles heel of the Go 10 series of sets and until TomTom change the sets or come up with a physical answer to the problem they will get passed by the competition because any items released by them that use the mount will fail.
it seems that every feature I try to use on the 910 has pit falls Audio books locked to AA files.
MP3's you can only load one album at a time from Home to your TomTom.
if you get TomTom home to look at a folder of music if there are to many albums in there it will crash Home.
I will be lodging a RMA with TomTom asking for them to change my 910 when the new Gos come out…..
But have some questions
Other than the revised mount have they changed the connections on newer Go sets ie longer pins or the like..
How do you find the Bluetooth hands free with your phone is it useable or not most of the time
Does your set still switch its self on after you have turned it off.
Whats happened to the Car connect sets
How is your FM mount

Don't use home to transfer mp3's to your 910, just use Windows explorer and you can transfer as many gigabytes worth of albums/tracks as you want in one go. Also my FM mount works great, I don't have any of the problems you are having. |

:D less than a month old, so maybe you power problems will come with age i dont know. I've also got the 910 set up in such a way as to rest the edge of the screen on the dash so that it doesn't bounce, which helps i'm sure. |

Before I changed to a One and a Brodit mount, I used a blob of bluetack under the Go, to wedge it to the dashboard. It stops it bouncing around, and also stops the rattling noise I used to get when it was just leaning on the dash. The window mount didn't droop (it physically couldn't), and was much more vibration free. |

You see it seams that you cannot just stick the Go10 series on your windscreen and GO with out problems.
I was hoping that they had made the pins longer giving a better connection on newer units. But at a month old ,
Andy try this put the FM mount on your windscreen and then lock the Go in place so it is not touching any thing and go for a drive see how you get on!
Here is another question I have just spent all morning in Halfords trying to get the 910 working with the Bluetooth head units.
Looking at the Sony that can audio stream do you think we could get it working NO it would not even pair or find units in the shop.
Has anyone got the 910 to Bluetooth Audio stream over your car HiFi as this is the only way it should without the problems on the mount?
If you have what head unit are you using??????
Interestingly I brought a Sony head unit with a 3.5mm jack plug on the front and this works very but it means yet another wire to the mount
1 for Power
2 for TMC
3 for Mike
4 to head unit starting to get messy now
This takes away from the idea to just change it from car to car tuning the radio in and going
TomTom if you see this you could add a pack of Bluetack to the Accessories page on you home page

tez wrote: | What’s happened to the Car connect sets | I asked TomTom about this last Saturday at the Sandown show, their response was to inform us they had dropped it with no further development or sales to ever take place.
tez wrote: | How is your FM mount | Mine works very well, OK if I hit a speed bump at speed then it does sometimes drop the FM connection, quite rare though to be honest. Reception is great using my Kenwood device near home, but in London and around the M25 you can struggle trying to find a vacant channel for it to use.
As for a Bluetooth Stereo connection I have done this with a Pioneer deck, but I cannot remember the exact model, sound quality was excellent but it wasn't too easy to get the devices paired - Mike |

Hi Mike
I am open to all thoughts But the FM mount drops out over very small bumps!
I will raise an RMA with tomtom on Monday but the mount is still a problem for them.
I have the newer mount and my unit was one of the first to hit the shops and has not been abused.
It’s interesting that you have had no probes with yours given that others have resorted to some "Heath Robinson" resorts.
I am not knocking TomTom but need an idea of what works and what does not, Bluetooth would be the best way to go but buying a Bluetooth audio streaming head unit is not as strait forward as it should be. And TomTom cannot expect us to go out and try and then take back head units at our local Halfords.
An FM mount that works when you wedge or rest the Go against something does not work in my opinion.
I have been very good to TomTom so far what with the TMC receiver and how long and how many calls, I had to make to get them to address the mount and rebooting problems. Even when there response was “There are no issues with the mount at all”
I am going to buy a new head unit for my car to get this Audio streaming working.
Still looking for a Bluetooth head unit that works with the 910

Try and find one of the smaller local specialist shops that sell just Car HiFi equipment, the staff at such shops are often far more knowledgable than employees of a major high street chain. These type of shops are not that common but most most large towns will have at least on such outlet - specialist advice, and get them to connect your 910 to a demo unit before purchase - Mike |

I've used the FM mount stuck to the windscreen without resting the 910 on the dash and it works fine even there. The only reason i've got it resting on the dash now is because i've built a custom mounting arrangement that fits into the storage box in the dashboard top that you can find on the 2005 onwards Ford Focus titanium's and Ghia's. The 910 is in a better position here in my opinion as it doesn't hinder vision of the road in any way and i dont have to go wiping suction cup marks of the windscreen every time i take the mount off. |

Hi there Andy that's the answer I was looking for because if the FM mount works then my Go must be at fault and the pins must be different in the newer Go's.
Looking at the Go's in Halfords and comparing to mine the pins do look a little bit different to mine so they are sending my Go back to TomTom along with the Mount to see whats what with it……
Thanks Terry |

Update
I have been looking around at the TomTom Go 910 in my local stores and can say TomTom have not only changed the Mount but have also changed the pins in the go itself making them longer than the ones on mine.
May be this is why mine is playing up...

Well the go’s back and I went to collect it today and the note from TomTom stated that a Cosmetic Repair had been carried out.
So we set about testing it with the FM mount and it was no better clicking the go on to the mount it would not find the mount unless you pushed the bottom edge of the go thus making contact with the pins.
So the good guys in Halfords changed the unit for a brand new Go and the mount is on its way back to Amazon as it had the same problem on the New go as well.
I am toying with the idea of getting another one but just can’t be bothered with it to be honest.
I am going to get a head unit with a 3.5mm jack line in and do it that way as it seems that’s the only way that reliably works
