I've given up the battle of trying to get the missus to keep her iPaq AND her GPS charged & have given her my 710. Managed to pair her phone & import the phonebook after applying the flash fix. I was expecting that either a second contacts file would be created or her numbers appended to mine. What I didn't expect (although with hindsight I should have from Tom Tom), was my contacts to be completely overwritten by hers!
Now given that the 710 is supposed to support multiple phone pairings, this would appear to be somewhat daft (but then it IS Tom Tom). Is there a solution to this other than taking a copy of the contacts.txt file, re-importing my phonebook & then combining into one file? |

I was wondering about this myself - but haven't tried it yet.
If you created your own POI with contact names, postcode and phone number you could then use that. One for your phone and one for your wife. The only snag I can imagine is that the names would not be sorted alphabetically but geographically. But what if you used the same postcode for all - it would then have to sort on something, and perhaps alphabetically?
I only have one phone.
It is a workaround solution but how practical - I don't know. But it would let you have 2 independent contact lists. Also would let you add phone numbers directly by editing the POI.
Over to you

Interesting idea but sounds like a bit of work. I've never created a custom POI & don't really have the time to start playing. Additionally, I'm not sure how it would handle name display of incoming callers. Don't know if this is plucked from the contacts file or from the phone?
Unless I'm missing something it just seems like yet another example of Tom Tom's half-arsed approach to everything they do! |

Why not email Tomtom with your suggestion and see what response you get. |

Wasn't aware I'd made a suggestion other than the fact that everything they do seems half-arsed, something I'm sure they're both well aware of & don't give a toss about.
As for e-mailing Tom Tom, in my experience addressing a complaint to Father Christmas & posting it up the chimney is more likely to produce a positive response.... |

Apologies crocodile I took your expectation for a suggestion.
"I was expecting that either a second contacts file would be created or her numbers appended to mine."
And, unless people make constructive criticism nothing changes.
And as for a bit of work...................who knows - might do you good. |
