Hi guys,

Craig here from Scotland UK.

My gf & myself just bought a Garmin Steertpilot i3 on Ebay, it came with a USB drivers CD-ROM & the lead... that was all, nothing else.

We are only wanting to use this for travelling around the UK (from Scotland to England etc)

When we turn on our Garmin it says the following:
To use this unit, map data must be installed. Installation intructions are located in the enclosed setup guide.

The undearneath it says this:

Warning:
Do NOT connect this unit to your PC until insturcted to do so as explained in the setup guide.

We're both not very good with Computers & stuff & was wondering what we can do to get our Garmin working?

Or mayby the item is faulty & we have been coned from the seller on Ebay?

Any help would be most grateful,

Craig

Hi there,

ok I contacted the guy I bought it from, he told me to hold down the left handside button when we turn it on.

This is exactly what he told me,

""First of all switch the unit on with the left hand button held down at the same time, this should put you in the use mode see if that happens""

""my card did work ok it works in all i2 i3 i5 I have tried it it is not locked""

We both tried that, but its just giving us a whole list of different things, but nothing happens.

I've listed below what it says, does anyone have any idea whats wrong? its driving us mad Laughing Out Loud.

IE:
software Version, 3.20
signal, 1885
SNR, 0.00
drift -----
Freg, 16367672
temp, 26
time,
reset, 0002:15:15
rec routable hwy basemap, ATL v2 2.0
RAM, pass
ROM, pass
ASIC, pass
vexternal ------

Then the screen goes all different colours.

IE:
blue
green
red
hite
yellow

I'm an absolute newbie at this too. I have the same problem with mine mate, sometimes it works , sometimes I get the message you get . If you press the roller down for a second or so it will switch on but you will have no maps.

Garmin have suggested the below....

"Please try the following:

"Connect your unit to your computer- go to

http://www8.garmin.com/support/blosp.jsp

choose your unit-then download and run.

Turn unit off.
Press on all three buttons on the bottom of the unit at the same time. Then wait for message about erasing user data to appear. Release finger when you see this message and then answer "yes" to it.

The unit will continue to the start up screen.

Put it then outside in a stationary position for about 45 mins minutes so it can pick up satellites. Just to let you know the master reset will erase any recent favourites..."

I'll let you know how I get on.

Yeah I just tried that mate, it gives me some cities of the UK, but I cant put in any post codes to find where I want to go.

Anyone know how I can put in post codes, rather than cities only?

Like I said, you won't have the maps, well only major roads. Just to check , go into settings, Map, then map source. I'm guessing that you will have a blank screen.

Try doing the reset thing. I downloaded the software, as suggested, on the website with my I3 attached . It was pretty simple to do and my I3 seems to be working Ok for now.

Yeah the screen is blank, I downloaded from the link you gave me. Map Source is still blank, so am not sure if I did it right or not.

Still working on it, I'll let you know how I get on. I'm having PC probs at the moment, so I'm using my mates PC.
