Hello everybody,

I have recently bought a GPS Bluetooth receiver Just Mobile GP-01 (more details here). It has only two led indicators, not three, as mentioned on the website. The first led shows the sattelite signal status and the battery status and the second led shows the bluetooth connection status.

Here comes the story: in the first place, I have fully charged the battery for approx. 10 hours, as mentioned in the user's manual. After that, I have used it for one hour, together with an HTC Universal and I-Go navigation software and it worked excellent.

The second day I started the receiver but I could not connect the PDA to the device, although both the leds on the GPS were indicating that there was signal from sattelites (flashing orange light) and that there was bluetooth activity.
After several unsuccessful retries (I deleted the GPS device from the list of paired devices on the PDA and reconfigured it), I turned the receiver's power off.

Then, after several hours, I tried to turn on the receiver, but the following simptoms appeared: after pressing the power button for at least two seconds, the orange light turns on (as long as I keep pressed the power button), but when I release the button, instead of powering on the device, the orange led turns off. Even if I keep pressed the power button for several seconds/minutes, exactly the same problem occurs (the orange light remains on as long as the button is pressed, but the bluetooth light is off all the time and when I release the power button, the orange light also turns off and nothing happens).
I tried to charge the battery; the power led turns red (with both USB wire connected to a computer and the 220V charger supplied) but the device does not power up when pressing the power button, having exactly the same behavior as described above. I also used a battery from a Nokia 6680 phone (BL-5C, 3.7V, Li-ion), with exactly the same voltage specifications, but the receiver does not power up, having the same simptoms. The GPS battery works fine in the Nokia 6680 phone.

I can resume the problem in several words: whatever I do, I cannot turn on the device.

Do you have any ideas regarding the possible cause of this problem?

Thank You in advance,
Cristian

Nothing specific for that device, but you might want to take the battery out of the device and leave it for 24 Hours, put the battery back in and see if it will power up, doing this depletes the internal back-up battery so acts as a reset, I have done this from time to time with my devices when they get messed up - Mike

I have unmounted the battery as soon as I have read your reply. Is this kind of problem common with GPS bluetooth devices? Is there any way to do a hard reset of the device or to upgrade it's firmware?

I wouldn't say that it is common, but it certainly has happened before. On some devices you can upgrade the firmware but if it goes wrong you can trash your device, I would leave any upgrade to the manufacturer to be honest, there is not usually a reset switch on the devices that is why we say take the battery out, a quicker way is to remove the back-up battery inside the device, but again you stand a high chance of damaging the device (soldered connections usually), battery out and wait is the safer option - Mike
