Welcome to the Forum

the current database has camera location's predominately in Northern Ireland with some for Dublin. I have not came across any other web sites to obtain any more camera locations, someone else on the forum may be able to help Exclamation

Our advice is that GPS based safety camera warning systems are unlawful in the ROI. Indeed Garda are checking cars at the borders.

Until this situation changes we have chosen not to release a database for Eire.

That sounds odd, I have used my radar detector there a few times - I presume that this is illegal too?

"3. In these Regulations, "speed meter detector" means any device which is capable of being used to indicate the existence of, or to frustrate the operation of, electronic or other apparatus being used to give indications from which the speed at which a person was driving can be inferred."

covers things that tell you the location even if they don't detect" as such

OK, you got me Dennis...
Now I've just wasted 1/2 hour searching the world for an Eire road atlas with speed cameras marked, without success.
Looks like they ARE illegal!

Right then - Flog him all the way to the Guinness factory too (and don't let him collect two hundred potatoes on the way)!

The Origin B2 has quiet a few of the Irish Gatso's in (not that there are many...14???), no mobiles shown. Anyone driving in the south, just watch out for the Motorway slips, the Garda sit on those.....yes....on the slip road entering M'way with what looks like Li2020 Laser. Its only a matter of time before someone collides with stationary Garda Traffic Corps cars.

If your in UK/NI reg you can happily forget about the Mobile Transit vans they use. Again, they sit on Hard Shoulder of M'way with these. I have seen one North of Dublin airport on the M1 right on the chevrons. Its an endorseable offence for everyone else.

The other thing to be aware of is the Garda/Police think its ok to scuttle into the middle of the road to stop you, with no high vis clothing on, felt sorry for courier I saw one day being stopped like this, he should have got a medal for managing to stop.

All the speed limit settings in TomTom One V2 are incorrect for Eire, but spot on for NI. ie the indication which shows speed limit for current road, and flashes if you are over the limit. Most of the roads in South appear to be set at 70mph.

If you are a regular traveller to the south, can you confirm, or deny, the theory that the use of a GPS based camera location notifier is illegal in Eire? Some sort of documentary evidence would be useful!

The link posted by MaFt is pretty conclusive Confused

The question of them enforcing the law is quite another issue. If you locked your PDA when they stopped you and refused to unlock it, could they prosecute you?

Given the 1991 date, I'd read "any device which is capable of being used to indicate the existence of, or to frustrate the operation of" as radar detectors & jammers. Can any of our Irish members confirm?
I agree with you about the prosecution, but I think that we have to think about it from the legal point of view. Can PocketGPSWorld host the POIs if their use would be illegal? Can any of our Irish members confirm the legality/illegality or suggest a way that we can find out? I've tried to find an email address for the Garda, but I can't find one. As well as general interest, I'm travelling over to Dublin in a few weeks time, and I'd like to know!
