Evenng all...my head is about to explode...let me explain...
It all stated with me mailing Lutz to find out if a modified data.chk file would be released for app v6.522 and Lutz sending me a link to a post which showed how to use the ogg files to save having to update for every app release.
I downloaded the ogg files, renamed them etc etc and put in the original data.chk file. All seemed fine and dandy, everything was doing what it should, all nice new warning voices ..until I undocked my 510. When I started it undocked, all the menu's had changed, everything wanting me to connect phones and what have you....none of the usual things that should have been there were...
Not a problem I thought, I'll just restore to last month back up.... which has put the menu's back to the way they should be (I had to manually delete the ogg files?) but now I can't get the customised sounds to work, even with a fresh download of the 6.520 data.chk file.
So, question 1, what was I missing when my menu's went wrong after installing the new ogg files and question 2, why won't my bloody customised sounds work now that I've done a restore and gone back to the way things were.
Thanks in advance for any help

Paul, you have changed too many things in too small a time frame to notice what has affected your device.
For a start make sure you are running the latest version of TT software (6,522). if need be install it again via the TT home application.
Next install and configure your ogg file speed camera warning sounds, simply forget about the data.chk file leave it alone, the sounds within it can be used to alert you to other less menacing POI (fuel stops etc).
As to why your menu files have also become corrupted I am not too sure, unless you have tried to install POICapture at the same time, take it slower, one step at a time, debug and progress - too many changes in one hit can be a nightmare to resolve
And one other tip don't configure your device through the TomTom Home application, certain functonality and menu options are not available, configure your camera warnings on the device - Mike |

Thanks Mike, wise words as always... but I honestly thought I'd been very very careful.
All I really did was download, install and rename the ogg files and when it wouldn't work I pasted in the original data.chk file and that last change seemed to make the new voices work.
When I found that it had corrupted my menu's I rolled back to last month which only seems to have 95% worked (the custom sounds now don't work even though I have pasted in the latest data.chk file again).
A couple of points to note:
I installed the new voices on to app v6.520, could this have caused the menu problems? Does the new way of having custom warnings only work with app v6.522?
What data.chk file do I need to have in the root folder, the original or the latest one I downloaded for app v6.520?
Should I be a bit wary of trying to do the ogg files thing again until I can get it to work the original way again OR... should I forget this and just upgrade to v6.522 and do the ogg files again....?
Many thanks as always Mike! |

Thanks for posting Dan, I was hopeful for a few seconds but when I followed your links I realised they were the exact places I'd gotten my stuff from when I tried doing it yesterday.
I will try again tonight once I've updated to v6.522, although now I'm really confusing myself...
Mike says leave the data.chk file alone, where Dan says download Vicki v6.13 which gives me a data.chk file???
Just to be clear, I am going to
1. Go to http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/realvoice.html and download the file called Vicki Archer 22050Hz from the box entitled Ogg File Downloads at the bottom of the page which contains 20 sound files.
2. Rename the 20 sound files to match the ov2 and bmp files that I already have in the GB Maps folder.
3. Undock the 510 and individualy go through each warning just ok'ing what is already set up.
Now, step 2.5, do I also need to go to http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/realvoice.html and download Vicki 6.14, which gives me a data.chk file. If not, which data.chk file should I be using now?
Again, thanks for the help...leaving work at 3pm to go and try fix it!

Thanks Dan :D
So which data.chk file should I have in the root, the last one I downloaded for the 6.520 database?
Cheers

Scratch that last question, I've got it working (using the 6.520 data.chk file).
I have to guess that my problems were caused by trying the ogg files without upgrading to app v6.522.
Just did steps 1, 2 and 3 of my previous post after upgrading to 6.522 and all now works fine and dandy now.
Hurrah for Mike!
Hurrah for Dan!
Thanks guys

Glad it's all working for you now!
But just for info, it wasn't anything to do with having to update to v6.522.
I'm still using v5.44 (yes 5.44!) on my main SD card and the .ogg files work fine. |
