Help with adding more maps

I have a dell axim x5 with the TomTom2 GPS system. I have the maps for the USA and want to add them but every time I do the software says ther is only the GB map installed. Any help appreciated.

I'm not sure precisely how you make this happen, not having the USA version of Navigator myself, but you have to activate your Pocket PC with Navigator 2 USA for the USA maps to work. Activation in Navigator doesn't really activate the program; it activates map sets. My machine has only ever had TomTom Navigator 2 UK installed, so it's only activated for UK maps. You can have a machine activated for multiple map sets; there is no problem having both Navigator 2 UK and Navigator 2 USA installed on the same machine.

It may well be a case of installing Navigator over itself with the USA program disc (and, if necessary, re-upgrading to version 2.24) - but I'll leave the details to someone who has actually done this themselves.

I'm just a little concerned you say you have the maps - I hope that means you have the entire TomTom Navigator 2 USA pack, as I don't believe the maps are sold separately. This is, of course, licensed software. Quite apart from the license, the same rules apply about using the activation key on multiple Pocket PCs as they do for Navigator 2 UK.

You also need to be aware that the USA maps have been reissued - if you haven't the latest set, it's probably best to apply for an upgrade. http://www.tomtom.com/products/usaupgrade/ has the details - including how to tell if you already have the latest maps.
