I'm a total newcomer to GPS!

I've bought a Navman 3300, and managed to get Smart Explorer working on (my sister's) PC. I've managed to send a chart to my iPAQ 5500, together with the Navman driver.

I brought up Smart Explorer on the iPAQ, and configured the GPS (shows the Navman as COM4). Tried to get satellite fix (outside) - and nothing! Currently, I'm in Cornwall just north of St Austell.

The other thing is Pocket Streets 2004. I've got a Cornwall map loaded, went to the GPS tab to configure, and it doesn't give COM4 as an option.

The only manual that came with the 3300 is a glossy booklet (roughly A4 sized) in eight languages, with a picture of the iPAQ and Navman sleeve , with the largest print being "NAVMAN GPS 3300 Off road", and the rest being a manual for the Smart EXplorer software. I can find NO instructions for the Navman 3300 itself.

Any help will be very gratefully received!

Morning,

Have you installed the Navman serial driver, as I'm pretty sure the 3xxx sleeves initialise on Com 6 (@ a speed of 57600Kbs).

Just to let everyone know, I downloaded a firmware update, and it started to work - somehow! I had a look at Ots' suggestion, and it says that it's an update for iPAQs up to 5450 - mine is the later 5550.

That is interesting when I reviewed the 3300 it worked as soon as I had installed SmartExplorer on the 5450. I didnt need to update the firmware at all.

Ian, have you had the 3300 for long or did you just get it? Was the firmware update for the iPAQ or the Navman sleeve?
