Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered before. If I buy the Mapsource Metroguide and a 512 Micro SD card can I upload all of France onto the Micro SD card and will it work on a Garmin i3?

I gather that I will not be able to autoroute on the i3 but will it show me all streets to a very detailed level.

I also believe that the 3D mapping will not work and it will only be 2D. Is this correct?

I'm going to France in a few weeks and don't want to rely on base mapping or have to shell out £160+ on City Navigator but would like some thing that would show me what street I'm on in conjunction with some POI's I've uploaded for France.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

MetroGuide Europe v8 has been available on eBay for £40 - £50
All of France is 280MB
It is possible to 'autoroute' with MetroGuide by following the past threads!
The topic of autorouting was answered yesterday.
Whether it works on your unit I don't know, but it works on other Garmin units.

Thanks for the info. One other thing, with the autorouting do you get voice turn by turn instructions and also can you get turn by turn instructions just like on the City Select version?

Thanks again

Yes you can get metroguide to autoroute with voice commands and can be made to be indexed (address search) with a map loader called img2gps (freeware). this has been covered on other threads. Do a search.
I seem to recall it can still be displayed as 3D in th i3

You will also need a transflash reader

Thanks Beerbellybill999. I've just bought a card reader/writer (T8 E-Blue) from Maplins @ £9.99 on special offer, Metroguide v7 from ebay and a 1GB transflash card from MyMemory. Once the MG and 1GB card arrive I'm ready to start!! I've downloaded img2gps.

A new "trick" seen on Brighthand.com forum to allow the autorouting for MetroGuide Europe V7 and V8 using "binpatch". (See rwsmith123 thread)
Simply brilliant !

Enjoy Wink

You could also use Metrowizz ( search on this forum ). Worked well for me.
My I3 has on-board UK+Ireland maps ( no Transflash ).
I just use a Transflash with the appropriate country loaded when I travel. You get tick boxes asking which maps to use on the screen.
It only handles Transflash cards up to 512M though. Can you change your card purchase?
Easy to do. A previous post on this forum tells how.
file sizes:
France 336M
Benelux 106M
Spain/Portugal 106M
Good luck.
