Hello all,
I use TomTom 5.21 on a Mitac Mio 168 PDA and have loaded the Pocket GPS database. I have been out driving but not had one alert from a speed camera and I believe the reason may be that the speed shown on my TomTom screen is 8 miles per hour slower than the actual speed I am doing. Therefore I believe that I am never going fast enough to trigger the warning from the database, even if I am speeding.
Is there anything I can do about this ?
Thanks

The Sat Nav will be very accurate.
Your speedometer is designed to over state the speed you are doing - i.e your Speedometer might show 80 mph but you'll actually only be doing 76 mph or so. |

Hi Paul,
I understand what you are saying but 8mph difference is quite extreme.
Is there any way of checking that the database is working and having the speed cameras show without actually speeding?
Otherwise I will need to exeed the speed limit on my speedo by about 10mph before I get a warning.

TomTom software does not issue warnings that are related to your speed, the warning is issued when you are within a specified distance away from the individual POI.
Tap the screen and go to Change Preferences/ Manage POI/ Warn When Near POI select each camera in the list and configure the warning - you need to choose the warning sound, the distance and if the warning is only on route or not.
Have a look through THIS it explains how to set-up the camera warnings, just disregard the parts about Text To Speech which your combination doesn't have.
Once you have configured the warnings you can see it working by planning a route (Use Advanced Planning AtoB) set a departure point and destination that you know passes a camera, then use route demo set the speed to 100% and sit back to watch (it saves fuel and having to go out in the cold)
The difference between your sat nav speed and car speedo is well reported on the forum, it could be down to a number of reasons, tyre size, pressure and a worn / poor speedo in the vehicle, trust the sat nav when driving in a straight and level attitude, cornering or steep climbs will degrade the speed accuracy of the GPS related speed (but in the UK I would expect the GPS to be more accurate than a vehicles speedo) - Mike |

Thanks.
Great help. I have done as instructed and the cameras have appeared in the demo as they should.

Good, now you know how to do that you could have a go at using spoken camera alerts on the device, which speed camera download have you installed?
Single file
Consolodated
Speed Zoned
The have a read of THIS look at the ogg file method, it is easier to do IMHO, and is best employed using the speed zoned download, at least you will be able to re-select the warnings, as you know where they are now - Mike |

I selected the OV2 and Speed Zoned complete (24 files)
I am reading the OGG file section as suggested.
