Hi, this is my first post, i have recently dowloaded the speed camera data base to my icn550, I have one problem in that i don't seem to have any control over the distance before the warning comes up. I have tried altering the distance but it doesn't seem to have an effect. Am I overlooking something? at present the warnings are coming too late, especially if travelling at speed.

Thanks

Hi, and welcome!

If you are using TomTom's own camera warnings, they recently changed the way they do them so you cannot change either the warning distance or the alert sound. Daft eh?

Suggest you:
1. moan at them. It's a stupid, backward step.
2. Change over to using the database from here, which still gives you full control over alert distances, on-screen icons, and sound or real-voice warnings.

Well, when you set up the camera files to warn you (In Preferences / Manage POI / Warn when near POI) one of the pages you have to go through is where you set the distance.

If you have installed the "speed-zoned " set of files, you get this page for every type/speed of camera, so can set it differently for all of them.

A handly chart (from member Lost Property) gives you the distances to enter for different numbers of seconds warning at each speed:

Quote:

Mph - 30s - 20s - 15s – 10 secs warning.

70 - 1173- 782 - 587 - 391 yards
60 - 1026- 684 - 513 - 342
50 - 879 - 586 - 440 - 293
40 - 732 - 488 - 366 - 244
30 - 588 - 392 - 294 - 196
20 - 441 - 294 - 221 - 147

For a 30 second warning at 70mph = 1026 yards. Obviously the warning is only needed if you are exceeding the limit. So I have used 1173 yards which is actually a 30 second warning if you are travelling at 80mph, the same applies throughout the range.

Andy, please re-check the OP this is about an iCN550 so if it were using TomTom's database I would be very surprised!
Sweeps have you followed the installation guide which can be found HERE - Mike

Yes it looks like i can only adjust the distance to warnings in the poi editor when dowloading to the icn, bit of a pain.

That's down to Navman I'm afraid, not a lot we can do about it. Email them and ask them for a better implementation of POIs.

I recall speaking with their MD at a Press Event a few years ago where they thought user POIs of any sort weren't needed!
