The built-in POIs in my MIO C510E are reasonably good, but there seem to be many omissions. The nearest church is shown as being in London, over 100 miles away. The new Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham does not appear, several local museums seem to be missing, petrol stations are sparse, restaurants totally inadequate.

Are there better POI databases available and are they able to be imported to the Cx10 models?

IIRC - Sallyann answered a previous post explaining that the POI database is embedded in to teh core application and hence can not be editted/corrected.

You can import your own POIs quite easily and there is another forum specifically discussing this topic

Yes, you can't do anything about the supplied POI's (apart from turn them off) because they are included in the country maps. But the link that ernest_mio gave you will let you import some more. There are losts of POI's available here:

I did search for and have read that thread, but I am still very new and a lot of the posts in there assumed some database knowledge as applied to SatNav systems. In particular it mentions file types and conversion software which I am reluctant to try out in case I something up.

I'm really looking for an idiot-proof guide, I guess.

Don't worry about it!
Providing you modify only the files in the \Miomap folder on your device (which is where ALL the files are that you need to change) you can't do any real harm. The very worst you can do is to have to reload from the original CD's.
