I have a new i3, purchased 2 days ago. I am in Australia, and it came with a preloaded 256MB microSD card with Aussie maps and no maps or software on CDROM, except the USB drivers.

Now I have read that if I load a POI file into the i3 (using the POI loader program I downloaded), I lose any POI's that are in it already. Now I'm not sure exactly what that means. Are POI's the same thing as the list of shops and things it came with, that I can choose as a destination instead of typing an address? I would NOT want to lose them, as it comes with quite a few useful ones. Is there a way to extract them to a csv file so I can reload them?

I have copied all the files from the SD card to my hard disk using a card reader - mostly a large image file and some language files. If I stuff up, can I just copy these files back to the SD card, or is there some copy protection/unlocking mechanism that will cause me grief?

I have also downloaded Easy GPS, and have extracted and saved my favourites, just in case I lose them.

Welcome to the forum!

Loading Custom POI's will def not overwrite the ones supplied on the unit.

Depending on how many you intend to load, you may find the the i3 complains that there is not enough room to upload the POI's.

This is because the i3 does not have much spare on-board free memory. This can be circumvented by loading the Custom POI's directly to the 256mb card using a card reader. POILoader will see the card as a drive, create a new folder called 'poi' and load the file (there will only one at this point) there.

OK, I will use the a card reader. The maps for Australia only use 140MB, leaving lots of room on the 256MB card. I assume that I can put multiple POI files in the poi folder?

Mine is being smarter than that. Using the POILoader I got yesterday from Garmin, I uploaded a heap of POIs to the i3. No complaints, and when I looked at the microSD card in a card reader later, I noticed a POI folder with a poi.gpi file in it on the card.

Looks like they've figured out the problem and now put the POI data on the microSD card automatically.
