alternative way to mount tomtom one v1??

hi
would it damage my tomtom one v1 if i mounted it on my dashboard using a magnet stuck to the dash and a thin plate to the back of the tomtom?
i used to use this method for my phone and it strikes me that this would be good in as much as it would not be visible to would be toe-rags looking to break in.
providing of course the magnet was strong enough to hold the weight of the tomtom, i'm more concerned if someone could advise me whether the magnet will have a harmful effect on the tomtom??

I have purchased the holder for my TT One V2 and a clip that goes over part of the air vent, they do various combinations of PROCLIP and it is rock solid and easier to view.
