Hi

I am looking for a budget satnav to buy for my parents who live in France. Something along the lines of the navman icn330 which I already have. The thing is I don't want to buy a uk one and then have to buy the french map. They don't need a uk map so I want a unit that comes set up with the French map - I am at a loss as to how to get this. I emailed Navman but they did not respond. Any ideas?

sorry about that meant to carry on but hit the wrong button, They can always get one at the Casino Geant, or Darty, they are in most of the big towns, Also Darty are doing a good deal on the Typhoon 3500GO, and all you do is insert the sd card and off it goes, not a bad GPS and is based on the MIO, hope you find what you want.
Regards Geoff

They live south west France - nearest town is Cahors I think. Thanks for the advice. What sort of price are the units you suggested and as it's a present is it the sort of thing I could get online or will they have to go and get it?

Cheers

Nicola

Darty are selling the Typhoon 3500GO for about 229 Euro's which is about 155£ at todays rate of exchange, or maybe a little less than that, and it has the French maps, I dont think that you can get them on the internet, so they will have to go and get it, the Casino Geant, has a range of GPS systems starting from the same price, would not recomened Yakumo as the charging point seems to break after a couple of months, and I dont think they will be very happy about that. best of luck.
regards Geoff

Well I suppose you have some alternatives. Either a dedicated unit with french regional maps (you may need to buy from a french outlet) or a PDA satnav that you get maps to add onto

The Mio C510E comes with EU maps on DVD for £199 @ handtec

Thanks for the useful advice. I take it if they get one from a french outlet the voice will be available in english? Sounds like a daft question but you never know. Also does anyone know whether the navman icn530 has street level european mapping as that seems quite cheap now.

cheers.

you can buy a tomtom with european maps, that way if they visit you they won't have to update their maps first.. their fairly cheap now..
