My Nuvi310D has a habit of keep taking me down single track lanes, does anyone know if the unit can be setup to only use motorways or A roads :x

It's probably down to your avoidance / routing preferences.

Set it to avoid gravel roads, and set it for shortest time (not shortest distance) and it should be better.

Otherwise, give it a few days, there is some learning logic in the unit which may improve it's choice of routes over time.
