Welcome.
If you want to check a route distance/total time and you are at the start of the route, the way to find out is to set up your route then 'review turns', it will show you your route as a series of turns, if you then press the scroll wheel the screen splits to show half map half directions, if you scroll to the last turn it will show the total distance and total time of the route. Should show 170miles.

If you want to see which route the i3 will take you and you are neither at the start or end of the route its the same proceedure as above but you have to set your location in the i3 to the start position. To do this, turn off the gps receiver in 'settings', 'system', 'GPS mode'. Then find the start position postcode/POI you want as you normally would but when you get to the list which starts with 'start navigation' scroll to the bottom of this list and select 'set location'. Having done this choose your destination and follow the proceedure above to get total time/distance.

Welcome

My Quest will show the straight line distance as rough guide if it hasn't yet calculated the route, perhaps this is what happens?

Totally agree with this. Until you calculate the route I believe the i3 (and other units) will show the crow-flies distance.

First time here so apologies if I haven't followed protocol

My Garmin i3 Street Pilot shows incorrect distances both with earlier firmware and latest 3.2. The longer the journey the greater the error, e.g from where I live in East Lancs to St Ives in Cornwall is shown as 266 miles - it is actually about 370 miles.

Any solution please? Question

Hi and Welcome

Have another read of the posts above. What we are trying to explain is that until the i3 has calculated a route, it can't know the distance by road - only the straight line distance.

When you search for a place, it just shows you the straight line distance so you can get a vague idea of where it is (eg, St Ives is about 266 miles to the South West of Lancs). Once it has calculated the route, it will know the exact distance by road. Let it calculate the route and then see how far it is.

Does this answer your question or am I missing something?
