The US based http://gpsinformation.net and a lot of the alt.satellite.gps postings have got me spooked with their “if it’s not Navteq (preferably on a Garmin) it’s crap” bias. However there’s clearly a lot of happy Navman customers here, and it certainly has a better bundling of features for $ then anything Garmin offers.

Anybody used both Navteq and Teleatlas maps in the US/Canada though? Of course neither are going to be perfect but say out of ten how would you rate their data? 9? 7? 5?

I used my Navman 510 for three weeks driving 3000 miles around 6 States (Arizona Utah Nevada etc.) in May this year and can honestly say it did not let me down as far as directions were concerned.
Where it was lacking a few times was that Hotels and some other POI were either in the wrong place or had changed name.

On another point, anybody renting a car in America should be aware that most car Rental companies disable the 12 volt accessory point. The reason given is that all the cars are meant to be non-smoking.

Don't listen to a word they say - the difference is so small that this is one of this religious wars based on all sorts of things except facts.

NavTech used to be significantly better than TA, now theres not much difference. Garmin are good systems, been around forever and they know what they are doing. Navman used to use Navtech and changed to TA - they wouldn't do that if TA were so bad. Navman has been in the game long enough that only Garmin have been in it longer.

Buy the system you like, don't worry about the minute detail.
