Quite often my new Nuvi 350 fails to acquire sats when switched on. If I view the 'map' showing the position of the sats in the sky, it is empty, and stats empty indfinitely.

Turning off and on (sometimes several times) fixes the problem. On a good boot, sats are acquired quickly (10-30 seconds).

This happens even when the unit has not moved between switching off from working, to switching on to an empty sky.

Don't think I have a windscreen problem because when it's working, it works fine (14 foot accuracy sometimes).

Is this a known problem or a faulty unit?

I've read most of the threads on this subject, but I am still confused and irritated by the speed alerts.

It seems there are alerts when approaching a poi camera, fine. But the unit seems to alert constantly saying speed limit ahead, even if I'm on a a bit below the limit.

Not sure how it knows what the speed limit is on a given road. Do the built-in maps know, or it is making deductions from presence of cameras?

It seems to alert around 5mph *below* the limit, and is hence doing so almost constantly. I would like to switch off all alerts of this type. The TomTomOne defaults to a single bong when a defined distance from a camera (regardless of speed). Can the Nuvi be configured to do this?

TIA,

Mark

Don't know about the satellite acquisition problem; sounds liek your unit is duff. With respect to speed cameras, teh Nuvi usually gives you a bong-bong as you approach a camera and then single bongs if you stay over the limit. The unit doesn't know the speed limit of individual roads, the warnings are based on teh presence of cameras.

If you are getting continuous warnings despite being below the limit, are you sure you have set everything to MPH and not KPH, which is the usual problem.

The only thing I've noted re sat lock with my 350 is when starting up on the move.
I now open the car and start the nuvi before anything else, can't say I've found it a big problem. But at some times it seems to have a problem finding satellites when moving at start up.

Thanks for that... I am on MPH, already fallen into that pitfall. I seem to be getting a continuous bong despite being on/just under the limit. Have set preferences for Single audio alert, rather than continuous. Also, on my test route, almost the only cameras are traffic light cameras. Didn't think they had a speed limit attached, but seems like they must - maybe I just need to delete them, but that's hardly an ideal solution. Will have to look into the camera database in more detail than I previosuly neded to.

Thanks again.

Good point. I was used to prodding the TomTomOne into life, setting a route and heading off. Withing half a mile, it was up and running. I am doing the same with the Nuvi, which may be part of the problem, although I have had no sats when experimentaly switching it on in the back garden.

Must do more analysis of the fault... Thanks for the useful pointer.

I seem to recall (I stand to be corrected if I am wrong) that traffic light cameras are rated as 0mph to ensure that you get an alert irrespective of what speed you approach the camera.

If they were rated at the same speed as the road they are on, you wouldn't get an alert as you approached the traffic lights if you were mor ethan 5mph below the speed limit. At least that's how I think they work.
