Hi
I'm trying to get the latest firmware version for my TTG500 but when TT HOME tries to connect to check for the updates it just says it cant connect to the TT Plus server or something, and says please try again later
Does anyone know if the TT servers are down or is it something at my end?
Thanks |

Has HOME got access permission from your Firewall? This seems to be a problem with some PC's.
The Servers are OK as at 21:09.;) _________________ Richard

No problems with my Firewall that I know of? Any idea how I can check this as I get no popups telling me its the firewall?
Thanks |

Have a look at a File called ServerError.txt which is in Program Files/TomTomHOME. It might reveal something.
Quote: | connection error

Now, I'm only guessing here but the important bit for errors is the network error bit.
When I had the Firewall problem I got connection error.
When I was Logged On to TomTom Website I got socket error.
When I can Login and there are no Updates I get The request to the server was empty or not allowed, please try again only without the the rest of the text.
From that I can only assume that the network error can be either at your end (getting HOME to talk to WWW), or at the TT end.
You don't have to Login with your TT Registered Account, as you can Login anonymously.
I don't know if anyone else can throw any light on the network error, as I can't replicate it. _________________ Richard

I have lately just started with the same problem as discussed
SERVER ERROR (Wed Nov 01 13:41:21 2006):
connection error
Request: ServiceDiscoveryRequest. Reply: ServiceDiscoveryReply
Server: "sweet.tomtom.com". Path: "/cens/sweet/sd/"
you say it is a problem with the setup of the firewall do you know what to look for in the set up of the firewall to alter the firewall i am using is Norton. I have included the tomtom.exe program to work within the firewall set up but i still get the above problem i have tried the tom tom site with no success.
thanks - Malcolm. |

I have pinned this problem down to a problem with certain BT routers that don`t seem to give access for what ever reason to the tom tom server. The router i used was a BT voyager 2100 which reading certain threads on the internet seemed to give the most trouble with connection to the tom tom plus server. I have now connected my old speedtouch 330 router and guess what - no problems at all with the connection to the server.
I have brought this matter up with BT support & i am now waiting for some answers as to sort this matter out. At least i am no longer pulling my hair out over this frustrating connection.

I have the same problem and had not considered that it could be the BT2100 router. The problem started in October and I have been pulling my hair out ever since.
Have you had a sensible response from BT?

When resolved, maybe this should go in the new FAQ's section?? |

I have tried contacting both BT & Tom tom support. At the moment either of them don`t appear to know a solution to this problem. The only way i get round this is when i need updates for my sat nav i connect my old speedtouch router which gives no problems at all. So it`s a problem with the BT2100 router in my case connecting with the tom tom servers. It appears you may be able to get round this with altering some settings within the router but BT support haven`t explained this all i get from them is update to the latest firmware which i did ages ago. So at the moment i can`t help but only advise you to change your router.
Cheers Malcolm. |

|

I have been checking on various forums & i think we may have come up with a answer to this connection problem ie:- BT 2100 router versus the tom tom servers.
http://www.yournav.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7922&st=40
This is what i have done to resolve the problem.
This a detailed list for those that don`t like tinkering -
Go into the BT Voyager Configuration Manager (http://voyager.home/main.html)
Click advanced - then local network - you will then need your username & password this will be set to admin for both unless you have set your own.
Check the local network configuration - check the MTU is set at the default setting of 1500. if so leave alone
Click internet - This shows the internet configuration on this page you will see MTU setting this also wants to be set at 1500 - ( MINE WAS 1400)
Press edit on this page leave all other settings as was just change the MTU to 1500 default once done you will need to re-boot the router.
Then bingo you should be able to connect to the tom tom server i hope.
I hope it works for everyone else that as been pulling their hair out.
Cheers - Malcolm. |

When I was operating without a software firewall (depending on the router's F/W) on my laptop, I had no trouble communicating with my 710 via Home or through the the file explorer. However, when I recently added Norton Security, I lost my link. I could update the TomTom SD card through a card rearder, so I wasn't stuck.
Initially, I thought that the TT Home Dock was bad until I tried a second dock. In the end, I was able to link the 710 to Home when I disabled the Norton Firewall. I guess it makes sense that the F/W software sees the USB as a network port and applies security.
Has anyone run into this and configured Norton to allow the TomTom USB Link with disabling the F/W?
