|
|
my i3 was purchased in france so I have v7 maps for france on a 256MB MicroSD. I've upgraded to 2.9 firmware, purchased Mapsource w/V8 maps Europe and a new 1GB scandisk MicroSD.
i'm able to upload, download POIs, change the splash screen, but not upload maps to the i3 using mapsource. The mapsource application says "insufficient disk space on c:." and then cancels the upload, even if I select only one map.
do I need to upload the maps using a card adapter and then put the card in the i3? I thought I would be able to just plug/play through the usb to i3 link.
sorry if this is stupid question, but I can't figure out what to do. |

with mapsource you load the map onto your hardrive( C Drive) from the DVD or CD. Is it possible you have run out of space on your Computer drive (C)? right click on you C Drive and then click proporties to find the free space. How much is left? _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

11GB free on C:
well, not sure if this makes things complicated, but I'm Mac-based, so I keep an old PC running windows 2000 for such occasions. the pc doesn't have a DVD drive, so a copied the mapsource DVD from my mac to my pac via windows file sharing, and did a full installation from a folder on the F drive onto the F drive which has 70GB free. everything installed ok and I'm able to select maps ok. |

ah ha - sorry you were right, i double checked and I had only 2.46 MB free on C: =:-o
I've cleaned up C: a bit and it seems to xfer ok now.
I do have 70GB free on F:, and mapsource is installed on F:, but it seems to insist on caching on C:. wonder if that can be changed?
anyway, thanks, I owe you a virtual beer. This garmin i3 is a cool gadget, but very fiddly |

no probs
I don know if this will work but
try Edit-preferences-file location.
Does this point to the C drive? _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

tried that, but I still have problems if I select too many maps, so it looks like the file preferences are for your preferences, but not where the map indexing happens before the xfer.
would you believe this old pc has only a 4gb HDD - back when that was big? and windows takes about 2gb.
I installed an 80GB drive a few years ago, but haven't managed to make it the boot disk. too afraid of screwing up the system.
anyway, 1GB would get all of UK, France, Benelux, most of Germay & part of Italy & spain, so shouldn't have to mess about with SD Cards.
I have the original Garmin MicroSD card which came pre-loaded with France. Will it work on other i3 or just mine? might be of use to someone else if it isn't tied to my i3 |

If you have bought your i3 after the 15th of September 2005, you are untitled to a "nearly free" upgrade to V8 maps.
You need to send the original of the invoice and the V7 transflash card to Garmin France (EME).
Nearly free means about £10!
You'all have to register on the Garmin Frnace site as well
See the details here
I think that this TF card should work on any other i3 . Worth trying !
