gps problems on medion 100

hey guys got my mates medion 100 to install tomtom for him and it will all work fine, but all of a sudden it will just lose all gps status. the bars and everything are still up but no signal can be found. this is not a one off incident and has happened on many occasions. is there a firmware upgrade tht will fix this or is the unit faulty. i had exactly same unit and tomtom software version running on my medion 100 before it got stolen with no problems. any help would be much appreciated thanks.....
