Hello all,
I have an imate JAM (well actually an Orange M500 if you know it by that name) and am looking in to my GPS options.
Currently I'm either thinking of a bluetooth receiver + software bundle, or buying something like the
Globalsat SD-502 SDIO GPS receiver and the software seperately.
So my questions are these:
What's the consensus opinion about software, i.e. is there a clear leader in terms of price and function?
Are the bundles a good deal? What would I expect to pay for just the software? Expansys sell the TT bundle for £195 but the Globalsat receiver is £105 on it's own, can I buy the software for less than £90? I've found the PDA software on its own is harder to find.
Also if it makes a difference, I'd like the European countries in there if possible as standard, and the option to add US maps at some point. |

Thanks for the welcome.
So you'd recommend Tom Tom. Do you know a good retailer for just the PDA software?
If I can find it for sub £90 I think I'll definately go for the GlocalSat receiver, it looks so tiny, and I like its multiplanal antenna as I'll probably use it walking around as much as in the car. |

I also have a Orange m500 pda and can thoroughly recommend TomTom despite the occassional quirks with the mapping accuracy which caused some embarrassment. There was an occasion that the main route was blocked with heavy traffic so tomtom calculated an alternative route and it guided me down a untarmac road and pot holes getting bigger and dipper. Without room to turn around so I had to reverse for about a quarter mile.
As for the GPS, I've just ordered a Holux 236 from nav4all which is on special offer of 69euro. A little suspicious since the next cheapest is £70. I'll let you know if i get it OK. |

TomTom Nav 5 will work fine when you update the software @
www.tomtom.com support, PDA Nav, tomtom 5, updates manuals.
If you buy the software on its own i would recommend the Holux GR 236 as the GPS receiver (it has SiRF STAR III chipset and has removable battery). _________________ Regards
