after the rather disappointing release of firmware 2.9 many will be seeking advice on what to change to.

please can we call on all of you to use this new topic to submit, pos. neg. issues in "bullet point" fashion, your experiences of all the firmware upgrades there has been since the start of the i3.

ie

2.7
pos
1) better postcode search than .....

neg
1) switches off at........ location

etc etc.

i hope, with your support, this will help others to make a better informed choice.

2.50:-

Didn't really notice any major pros, or cons with it. WAAS mode didn't seem to work for me, with 2.50

Didn't have it installed for very long.

Don't think I bothered with 2.60.

2.70:-

Probably used this for the longest time. No stability issues with it.

Pros:-

First time I've used the i3 and EGNOS appeared to work OK.
Postcode usage improved.

Cons:-

None that I can remember.

2.82 beta:-

Pros:-

No stability issues.
Noticable improvement in timing of voice prompts.

Cons (noted but not an issue for me personally):-

Custom POIs no longer categorised in fodlers.

2.90:-

Pros:-

Carried over improvement in timing of voice prompts from 2.82 beta
Custom POIs no properly categorised (although hardly a real plus, since they broke that in the beta).

Cons:-

Stability compromised - occasional, yet regular screen freezes or lock-ups at the beginning of journeys.

As a generalism, I normally shy away from the recommendations - because I think a lot of settings and results can be things that are personally perceived - so I'm not entirely sure consensus is called for in the choice of firmware. I do agree, though, that posting a list of discovered positives and negatives from the use of particular firmware versions helps people come up with informed and personal decisions of their own.

matb: do the terms "Pros" and "Cons" crop up a lot in your line of work? ;-)
