Is this software working on the laptop as the navigation (with 3D view) ?
On home website they says it is working only on PDA and Palm...no on PC.

Please let me know.

regards

Although I have never tried it my take on this is that Mapstore (certainly pre v4) is a fully functioning navigation application for the PC and therefore all you need is a GPS receiver that your PC can access (wired or bluetooth) and that Mapstore can identify and you should be OK. Under the "Display" menu you should find the Navigation Mode option.

I previously pointed you to kernow1's post, not because of the subject, but because he starts by saying that he has VM running on a laptop. You could try sending a message directly to him to ask how he set it up.

It seems that each new version gives fewer and fewer functions !

I've just been to the ViaMichelin website to check on the status of versions of the software, and they've slightly redesigned the site.

I always thought it strange that the PDA software wasn’t prominently announced on the homepage, but hidden away inside their shop, but now it’s appeared as a tiny “PDA” link right at the bottom of the page. And if you follow that link you find that “The latest navigation and mapping software for PDAs to be launched by ViaMichelin, ViaMichelin Navigation 3….”

What happened to version 4 ?

Hi,
I may have mis-understood what the thread is about, if so please ignore this reply, but according to the ViaMichelin website, ViaMichelin Navigation 4 does function on a PC. Here is an extract taken directly from the website:

For PCs*:
- PC Pentium™ 200 Mhz or later
- a CD-ROM drive
- Windows® 98 SE, 2000 or XP operating systems
- minimum of 128 MB RAM
- 300 MB free memory available on the hard drive.

The GPS function requires an NMEA 2.0 compatible GPS module, based on Datum WGS84.

* In order to succesfully install ViaMichelin Navigation 4 on your PC, it is required to perform a synchronisation with your PDA. Otherwise, it is impossible to install the software.

Here is a direct link to the page:

Hope this helps.

Andy

Yes, you do need a PC to use vM on your PDA, but unfortunately it would seem that in v4 the ability to actually use the Mapstore component as a Navigation application in its own right has been removed and that is what the original post in this thread was refering to.

elan2s is definitely right. You just need PC to install software on the PDA and to transfer maps to PDA...but true navigation feature on PC is not existing any more Sad
What the shame...because only Navigation V4 let you navigate between countries. Older version let you navigate only in ONE country area, so it is impossible to find the way for example from Paris to London Sad(
My father in law is the lorry driver and he'd like use this software with his laptop to navigate across the Europe. At the moment he is using Infomap Navigator 4 Europe but it doesn't has a 3D view Sad(

Simply....the map of Europe is one huge file (1.2GB). You don't need to open each country separate.

Martike,

From Mapstore, you select how much of a map you want. That map can cros borders. So, for instance, if you lived in Monchengladbach but regulary travelled to the area of Brussels (the most direct route taking you also through the Netherlands), then a map that includes the area you live and the area you have to travel to would be useful. So you cut yourself a map of the area you wish regardless of the fact that it cuts across international borders.

I hope that has explained it in way that is understood.
