Always select 'Quickest Route', but even then it's not guaranteed to avoid small roads.

Sorry to disagree Oldboy, but i find that when using limited speed set to 54 TT keeps me on main roads until the last moment. It will even go around an area and come in from the other side if that keeps you on a motorway longer. I know that this doesn't sound logical but it just seems to work.

I have to say that my observations were done nearly a year ago.

I've just done some routing tests and in only 1 out of 12 did the Fastest and the Limited (54) differ in their Routing. Then the only difference was that one took a Left and the other a Right, to end at the other side of the 'square'. Confused

limited speed at 54 is the best setting to use for an hgv but even then it can throw a curve ball now and again shortest will use the smallest roads to get you to your destination and fastest will tend to use the faster roads , limited speed seems to take a combination of these and give a very similar route to the truk settings on the garmin i3

Which is why I posted a query like this some weeks ago Smile , I found a possible way to avoid those little roads on a route or though I haven't fully tested if it will work every time, and that is to use fastest route, then use the 'avoid part of route' repeatedly under 'find alternative' button and avoid the roads with names in the middle of the list each time so you just have 'A' & maybe some 'B' roads left, it's a long way round of doing things but it worked on the last couple of journeys I did, didn't use a small road until really necessary, pity TTN5 doesn't have a user option route, one you can set which roads you most prefer to use.

It did have that option, then TomTom decided we really didn't need that and removed it.

InfoMap Pocket Navigator 6 has a 'Truck' setting which I intend to try out when I'm towing the caravan. I've no idea if it works yet tho'!
