I have the TT1 and I am finding the car charging lead untidy.

I note that some other manufacturers supply a coiled lead that looks far more tidy. This would prevent passengers catching the lead by accident as mine trails into the passengers footwell. I have tried using a rubber band to shorten the lead but that looks untidy also.

Does anyone know whether another manufacturers lead would work with the TT1 ?

BEWARE!!!!!

Hopefully you are aware of this already, but the TomTom cable is NOT just a lead, but an in-line power supply.

All the curly cables I've seen are just that - cables.
You would need to find one that includes the required 12 Volt to 5 Volt converter in the plug, otherwise....BANG!

Or just snip the power supply off the end and insert the new cable.

I just wish there was one available that you could wire in more permanently.. having all those cables around is quite untidy.

Lots of people have solved this by installing a new cigarette lighter socket behind the dash, losing the adapter and any spare cable behind there too, and running the cable up through a small hole behind the mount.

Or under the mount like I did....

Just a quick word of caution when messing around behind the dashboard of a modern car, if its fitted with airbags be extra careful if disconnecting wiring, or joining wiring to an existing circuit, make a mistake and you could end up with a very loud BANG and a costly repair bill, bear in mind these devices can case serious injury (the airbag that is not the TomTom) if they go off inadvertantly - Mike

Good point. Always arm yourself with the wiring diagrams if it looks at all complex, so you can work out the best circuit to tap into. (I got a full workshop manual on CD from e-bay.... oh oh probably on dodgy ground there Embarassed )

Thanks for the replies.

I have no intention of using a 'compatible lead' unless I know it would work.

Alternative routing looks like a viable solution.
