As per subject, do they exist?

Looking for something to replace my lovely old (and big, and heavy) Garmin 12, but was also considering a BT GPS for my PDA (and navigation).
Figured why not combine the two - a new handheld for hiking, and a BT GPS for PDA / laptop use.

Some while back we had a review of a serial-to-bluetooth adapter that can be used with the handhelds.

I am not sure which one was "featured" the one I use is a Brainboxes unit p/n BL-819 DTE for male connection
p/n BL-830 DCE for female connection
The major problem is the unit requires a 5 to 13,8V supply, it comes with its own mains addapter, it can alternatively accept power from the device it is connected to (if the unit will support this power output on pin 9 of the connector), good for use within a vehicle/ house but the power addaptor doesn't lend itself to walking etc. Mike
