Hi

I am confused about 2 things on the i3 Streetpilot. Please can someone clarify?

1) If I set up to go to a destination & en-route decide to turn off the suggested route (eg. because of heavy traffic), will it re-calculate & re-route me from the road I turned off?

2) If my car does not have a cig lighter, will it work soley on AA batteries? If so, what are the batteries actually for?

Thanks

Yes it will recalculate your route, you can also select detour from the menu which will cause it to try a different way.

Yes it will work on batteries without any external power supply.

Nick.

Thanks.

Does that mean that on a day to day basis, if it is being used in a car with a cig lighter, one does not need the batteries, or do they play a role with the cig lighter power?

Correct, as long as a cig lighter is available then you do not need AA batts, if you wanted to stick it on your mountain bike which has no power source then you can insert the AA batts. -
Also - just to clarify, if you stop the routing, then decide five miles down the road you want to resume then it will resume from your new location, not the one five miles previous where you paused it! :D

But, if I don't "pause" the unit but simply turn off the route to avoid traffic, it will start recalcing a new route from where I turned off - is that correct?

Back to batteries.

Keeping batteries in the unit when switched off will reduce the amount of time needed to Acquire the Satellites (typically under 15 seconds)when you switch back on again compared to a few minutes.

Also - setting the correct battery type 'Alkaline or Nimh' will ensure that the remaining battery life is correctly reported.

Well, slightly less inaccurately. Mine still cuts out shortly after going down to 2 bars. 2500 mAh Uniross.
