I have a Haicom 203E that I have installed in my hatchback vehicle under the (non-metal) parcel shelf and normally get as good a signal as being on the roof and 5-6 sats. Leaving it on ensures a rapid TTF. However, I'm wondering whether the permanent power on or alternately the heat in the boot space (whether powered off or on)could cause issues with the unit's long term reliability in anyone's experience?
My reason for asking is that today after starting off my CoPilot software (and also GPSInfo ex Haicom) were showing zero speed when on the motorway. All else appeared normal on the software and data was being transmitted from the 203 ... I didn't think to check RMC at the time.
A reset of the GPS did not help but disconnecting power and re-connecting did and it now seems OK.
Any advice or comments?

I doubt that having a permanent power feed would cause the problem, heat might though. Having said that, these devices were not designed to be left on all the time and you may be shortening it's life span by doing so. If at all possible I'd ensure the power is ignition switched or at least be able to isolate it using a switch when you are away from the vehicle.
