Hi,

I will shortly be going on to a place called cuxhaven in Germany. This will involve driving from my house in the UK, through france, belgium, the netherlands and into germany. Is a map available which will let me have all the roads for these countries in 1 (i.e. without switching). Ideally i'd like to set off from my house, enter the destination address in germany and let tomtom do the rest for me. Is that asking to much ?!?

Not too much to ask, but not cheap, either. Have a look here.

The following applies to TT5.x

If you start your trip with the Germany Plus map, you can navigate to your destination in Germany right from home. The Plus map contains all of the Major Roads of Europe (MRE) as well as the main Germany country map.

I haven't checked, but I assume that MRE also include the UK. If so, then you'd only have to find your way to the nearest major road in the UK. It shouldn't be too far away - in Germany, MRE contains most tertiary roads, so I assume that it's the same for most other countries.

I would check that with TomTom. The maps are the same across all platforms, so what works on the GO works on the PDA.

I've used MRE to find my way to places in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with few problems. The detail is greater than I thought it would be though I've encountered a few anomalies - like when following MRE along a main road in northern France, the directions took a sharp left on a different road round two sides of a triangle and met up with the road I had been on a few kilometres ahead. When this happens with MRE your screen will appear to be taking you across open country.

Driving from the UK to Cuxhaven using Germany MRE should not be a problem if you wish to stay on motorways or major routes; obviously the more you divert off them, the greater the risk of the road not being included in MRE.

I've also used individual country maps to navigate to addresses in Belgium. It's not too much hassle to switch maps at borders (it takes just a few seconds) though you may prefer to stop when doing this.
