POI's How do they work??

Hi all, new to CoPilot but downloaded some POI files into the CoPilot folder on my SD card, how do I know if these are installed correctly and do they automatically now show on the maps? I selected the POI icon in the menu but it doesn't let me select anything other than Custom and All Types, I presumed it would list all the different POI types I had?
