Can anyone help? I have backed up my tom tom and have removed one of the maps, now i am trying to replace the map and the tomtom has said that the device is full but there is space and when i try to restore the tomtom go 500 it freezes up and i get a statement from windows saying that it was unable to remove the GreatBritan maps and the data has been lost. 8O Has the TomTom become corrupted? How do i repair it and reinstall the software? The computer did crash with the tomtom attached so it may have done something to the data card!? |

a bit more info needed:
a) are you talking about the original TT SD card?
b) which map did you remove?
c) do you still have a complete backup and what size it it ? |

Sorry, it’s the original TT SD Card. I tried to remove the GB map to put on a DE map as I was off to Germany but it all went a bit wrong, the computer crashed and when I restarted it the GB Map info had disappeared, the folder was there but the files had gone . I have tried to restore it using the restore function on the CD supplied but it tells me that there is no room. I have a copy of the GB map (I copied it before I moved it) and I have a back up preformed using the supplied CD. I can still access the tomtom and it runs without a problem but tells me No map found. Do I have to copy all the info from the tomtom then reformat the card and copy the files back.... bit nervous about this?
ps. not sure if the backup is a complete one.... hidden files and all. I still have access to the tomtom through explorer.... I think only a portion of the card is corrupted. |

That's why I asked about the size of your backup.

The software is not a problem as that is free, but you need to check whether you have backed up the map.
As you have the 500, that will be the GB Plus map which is about 208MB.
See if that is the size that had.
As far as I am aware, TT are not using any hidden files in the GO versions. I've never found any. _________________ Richard

Make sure that you have the following files in your Map Folder.
cline.dat - 114,782
cname.dat - 19,925
cnode.dat - 42.511
faces.dat - 17,882
Great_Britain_Plus.mid - 1
Great_Britain_Plus.pna - 1
mapinfo.dat - 5,979
poi.dat - 1,685
setup.dat - 1
tmcodes.dat - 604
traffic.dat - 1
These are all KB. Other versions might have slightly differing file sizes.
If you have all of these then you can Format your SD card and start again. _________________ Richard

I don't know for sure what setup.dat actually does. It could just be a installation instruction set. _________________ Richard
