Dear Group, i've been reading up on how to add voice commands to the Speed Camera POI's.
I think i have it sussed apart from the fact that i have no data.chk file under the root on the SD card. Should that file always be present or is reliant on adding additional commands in order to create it.
Thanks in advance |

The data.chk file is always present and should be in the Root of the SD Card.
This is the same place as the system, ttsystem, spsystem, etc. files. _________________ Richard

Thanks oldboy i think i have it sussed. I had backed up the SD card using the TT software and the file in question was nowhere to be found.
I've reconnected the unit again to my PC and instead of using the TT software i just explored the TT as a Mass storage Device and there it was!
Possibly a tab confusing for a newbie to computers i think.
Anyways, while i have your attention . My software version is
4.420 (2852/041010) will this be sufficient for me to add voice prompts to the speed camera database or do i need to upgrade the software.
Many Thanks |

There is a data.chk file for 2852, and it works in exactly the same way as the latest version.

Hi Richard, sorry to be a nuisance but,,,, looking into my SD card i find i have 12 files in "GREAT-BRITAIN-MAP" labeled
GATSO
CONTINENTAL
MOBILE
REDLIGHT
SPECS
TEMP.
(2 of each)
Will the voice prompts work with that listing or am i better off to load the
"SPEED ZONED" files of which there are 40 or so?
Many Thanks |

So now you've learnt (luckily not the hard way) that you HAVEN'T got a complete backup yet! Make one now before you do anything else. This can't be stressed enough. Don't bother with TT backup software just copy and paste the whole card contents into a new folder on your PC.
Now, onto your question....
You need to use the speed zoned files, otherwise how would the Go know what alert to play?
Firstly did you read the beginners guide?
That would tell you that when you download the database and un-zip it there is:-
a folder called "single file version" which has, not surprisingly, the single file version, i.e all cameras lumped together;
a folder called "ov2 bmp files" which have the files with the 5 camera TYPES (+ continental cameras);
and the folder called "speed zoned" which has JUST the Gatso and Mobile TYPES split up into the various speed categories.
You can mix and match these in various ways but the usual method is to take the Red Light, SPECS and temp files from the "ov2 bmp files" folder and the rest from the "speed zoned" folder.
This gives the 18 mentioned:-
pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_40.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_50.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_60.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_70.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_tba.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_var.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile_20.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile_30.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile_40.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile_50.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile_60.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile_70.ov2
pocketgps_uk_mobile_tba.ov2
pocketgps_uk_temp.ov2
pocketgps_uk_specs.ov2
pocketgps_uk_redlight.ov2
(plus their matching .bmp icon files)
Once you have put these (INDIVIDUALLY, NOT INSIDE A FOLDER) into your map folder, then you set the TomTom to react to each camera type with the relevant sound file. |

Ah i see!! Thanks for that Andy, i think i was on the right track but it's always nice to get confirmation don't you think .
I did actually buy myself a spare 256mb SD card so i'll try all these changes on the new card i think.
Thanks very much for your help! |
