Is it just me, or is the ViaMichelin website badly constructed ?
The only way to get to information on PDA software is via “Store”, instead of the more usual “Products” or “Support” on other similar websites.
Then, when you get to the store, there’s no clear separation between buying new products and accessing patches or technical information for existing ones.
Shouldn't "Navigation Software" or "Navigation Products" be one of the main menu items at the top of the page ?
The navigation routes through the site aren’t clear, so in a way I suppose it matches their products ! |

While I agree that the website is clunky and cranky, I feel you are just slightly overly harsh.
On the homepage of the website, near the top, just to the right of centre, there is a box advertising the Store. Underneath the word 'Store' (which is a hyperlink) is the explanation that this is where you find PDA software, GPS navigation packs and navigation CD-ROMs.
Follow the hyperlink and you arrive at the Store where you immediately can find links to PDA software, GPS software, patches and software registration. |

I get cranky (like the site) when I see things like this. It's unprofessional, and I think it may reflect Michelin's attitude.
Do you really think that technical information, patches, user guides, and so on, belong under the heading "Store" ? It certainly isn't where I'd naturally go looking for it.
It would be much more logical (and easier to find) if "Store" was for sales, and "Support" created as a section of the site for the other stuff. |

The trouble is the ViaMichelin site is not just a site to do with the software that we all find ourselves using. It is much more than that.
Essentially, it is an online map and route planner.
The support website for ViaMichelin Navigation should be a seperate site (or sub-site). So yes, rather than coming under "Store" there should perhpas be a tab at the top for "Software Support" or "VMN Support" or some such thing to indicate that this is a support section rather than a section where one buys things. |

Correct, and in the same way it seems to me that Michelin is a company which is essentially in the map and route planning business, and has been for a very long time. But they haven't yet got themselves sorted out when it comes to marketing and supporting software. |
