Hi Folks,
Is there a newer GPS driver for TTM5 - other than v1.20 that i've got installed?
I've currently only got two types of GPS devices available in 'Specify your GPS hardware' - 'TomTom Wireless GPS' & 'Other Bluetooth GPS' - the 'TomTom wireless GPS' has a key on it and '0000' - isnt this meant to be on the device that I've got paired? the 'Other Bluetooth GPS'?
I'm trying to figure out whether my Qstarz BT-Q880 GPS device is working correctly - it seems to stay on 'No valid GPS signal!' no matter where I go.. the grey bars go up and down but never acheive a lock..
Is there a program that I can run on my mobile to check that my GPS is working correctly?
Can anyone shine a light onto what I'm doing wrong
I've the following:
Nokia 6630 - firmware - V3.45.113 - 04-01-05 RM-1
Qstarz BT-Q880 - GPS
TomTom Mobile 5:
App version 5.000(419)
GPS driver v1.20
GB Map v562
Cheers.. |

the GPS driver is internal to the application and cannot be changed. Try to use your receiver with a PC or Pocket PC to verify it's working properly _________________ Lutz

Cheers, I did - the programs on the pocket pc told me that it was picking up satellites, but not fixing on to them.
I tried it later on that evening and it worked first time - Very strange, its being working ever since... fingers crossed it stays that way..

Was/is the GPS receiver new? If so, or if it's not been used for a while, it may have been trying to download the necessary almanac data to obtain a rough idea where the satellites are - this can take >10mins or even longer if the received signals are being degraded. Indeed, if this is the case (moving car, trees, indoors etc) then perhaps whilst you may have already had the almanac data it was having trouble downloading suffcient ephemeris data to obtain an accurate fix... in the meantime you will get grey bars (compared with blue) and no location.
I may be speaking beyond my knowledge here but I believe that all the GPS location computation (including which sats to track, getting the data, trilateration of the positional info etc) is done inside the GPS receiver and hence if your're not getting a fix, yet do have a PDA-GPS connection (confirmed by at least some display of available satellites and bars) then any such problem will be down to the GPS receiver... or more likely the location/positioning of it. (I suspect GPS hardware failure is relatively rare)
